From old to new

Stuttgart, Germany

The redesign of the office space at Ernst Klett Sprachen GmbH in Stuttgart impressively demonstrates how an ageing existing building can be transformed into a modern and inspiring work environment. The original rooms were dark and functional, but not particularly inviting – a challenge typically faced by older office buildings.

The aim was to create flexible work zones across approximately 22,000 square feet of space, enabling both focused work and creative collaboration. The ‘marketplace’ is the centrepiece of the new office space – a multifunctional meeting area that can be used for both informal meetings and larger events. The café-style kitchenettes with integrated retreat areas promote social interaction and offer employees the opportunity to work creatively in a relaxed environment.

Particular attention was paid to skilfully integrating traditional elements such as the existing wood panelling and radiators into the new design without losing the character of the building. At the same time, the design should be flexible enough to enable the transition to the Klett Campus in a few years. High-quality materials such as Tarkett flooring and furniture from Steelcase and Palmberg emphasise the high design standards and durability of the project.

A special moment in the project implementation was the close and trusting collaboration with Ernst Klett Sprachen GmbH. Through regular exchanges, the specific needs of the employees could be optimally considered and integrated into the design. The result is a workspace that is not only functional but also inspiring.

This transformation shows how a traditional building can be converted into a modern, flexible working environment that goes far beyond a purely interim use. The positive response from employees confirms the success of this concept and sets new standards in office architecture.
