Kanso Apartments: Micro-living in Frankfurt Niederrad

Frankfurt, Germany

Kanso – this term stands for simplicity and the reduction to what is essential. This Japanese style of furnishing is to be found in the 291 micro-apartments and 11 micro-penthouse flats of the new residential complex of the Fox 1 GmbH in the Lyon Quarter in Frankfurt. The micro-apartments are complemented by a lobby, a small lounge, a fitness area as well as WC facilities.

Our task was to establish a haven of peace in the lively Frankfurt Niederrad district and create a retreat for commuters by means of fully furnished micro-apartments. In order to enable this, we oriented our concept development along the Kanso principle. Especially in the lobby, a reduced selection of materials, warm surfaces and colors are used. Naturalness and simplicity is the motto. For the only 17-22m2 “large” micro-apartments, including a fully equipped kitchenette, we have found functional furniture solutions. Thus, a revolving desk doubling as a dining table and a headboard with storage space for bed-linen were designed. It is expected that people will be able to get their own impression of the Kanso Apartments as of the middle of the year.
