A conversion of the special kind – the probably most sustainable and extraordinary residential project in Germany is currently to be found in Herne. Here, the company we house Herne GmbH & Co. KG is currently having the high-rise bunker Sodingen converted into a multifunctional building. This building stands for ecological construction and co-housing of the 21st century and next to individually laid out flats also comprises an inviting gastronomy, comfortable common rooms, as well as an indoor farm.
For the interior planning of the large guest room of about 130m² located on the ground floor and comprising a restaurant, a shop as well as sanitary facilities, we came into play. The task was to develop a gastronomy concept which manages to consider the room within the overall context of the construction task of the bunker, effect the networking between inhabitants and residents, and to focus on green cuisine. For this purpose, innovative products like those from “tiptoe” and sustainable materials made by “smile-Plastic” were used, among other things. A special feature is the stage-managed inclusion of the bunker – thus, the raw walls of the bunker in the large seating niches toward the outer room as well as the two inside bunker hatches remain visible. Due to the implemented concept “Natural Plain” with its reserved, warm and space-giving design, a place is created that invites guests to a creative, socio-cultural exchange while enjoying a delicious, sustainable meal, all of which visitors can gain their own impression of from early summer 2022.
